Classification of forest density in the Dinaric Alps in Bosnia and Herzegovina: - Dense Forest for density greater than or equal to 50 % - Open Forest for density less than 50 % The Dinaric Alps is one of the tree pilot sites in the Interreg Euro-MED StrategyMedFor project. This dataset has been produced using the High Resolution Canopy Height Maps by WRI and Meta from https://registry.opendata.aws/dataforgood-fb-forests. Meta and World Resources Institude (WRI) - 2024. Map of the forests in Galičica National Park in North Macedonia. This dataset describes the presence or absence of forest per grid cell for the year 2021 guided by the FAO’s definition of Mediterranean forest (UN-ECE/FAO, 1997; Lund, 1999 and 2002), specifically incorporating the following parameters: “land spanning more than 0.5 hectares with trees higher than 5 metres and a canopy cover equal or more than 10 percent. It does not include land that is predominantly under agricultural or urban land use”. An updated, high resolution, high quality reference spatial dataset that accurately identifies where are the Mediterranean forests across all the Mediterranean countries is key to produce valuable and reliable information to support the Strategy for the Sustainable Management of Mediterranean Forests.
